hi first time posting here but been lurking for years....

i was considering building a large tropical pond (outdoor)
i had 2 ideas for the pond

the first being a large 15' diameter metal framed pool (links below)

the second building a square shaped pond of cinderblocks and then using a pool linner as seen on "thecatfishkeepers" youtube channel

i was thinking using a few pond heaters for heating but something that concerns me is that i live in Ireland and this winter was particularly cold and we had quiet a bit of snow so what would i do in this situation?

what do you think? any ideas/sugestions on filtration heating etc

anyone with experience in this area or who has done it any advice ?

i was thinking of keeping at first 1 red tail catfish and 1 tiger shovel nose is this ok?

looking forward to what people have to say leave out the negative stuff please :)

Either idea should work for a cold water fish or tropical in the summer. In the winter though it would be extremely expensive to try and heat that much water. Could you build a green house over the pond? Filtration shouldn't be too hard, a couple DIY sand/gravel filters and maybe a few trickle filters should do the trick.

i would definitely do something other than trying to use like 2000 watt heaters all winter. the green house idea is a good idea. you could try (i am not a geophysicist or anything) running a line underground and using the stable temperature underground to keep your tank maintained. with that kind of extreme temperature variance i would recommend a greenhouse for sure but the heating thing would still pose a problem. you might be able to either buy a hot water heater or plumb your fish tank into yours (not sure if you can run a closed loop on a residential hot water heater). lighting would help as well. if you are thinking of running a planted pond and stick a coup;le of MH over it than they would help keep the temp up.

hmmm does anyone know if the catfishkeeper from youtube is on MFK ?? the UK got quiet a bit of snow last winter also wondering how he managed his cats ?

any tips on feeding/keeping aros outdoors besides the cover?

any experience tips for the rtc ??

much apreciated thanks
