My dad is planning for a 500+ Gallon pond outside. Basically we'll big digging a hole and lining it with concrete.

Both of us aren't really experienced in this sort of build or outdoor ponds in general.

Can anyone give me some insight on whether or not plain concrete is okay to line the pond? Does the concrete need to been sealed in a similar way to how plywood is?

Any info on similar builds are appreciated.

Concrete would still need to be sealed to hold water for a pond. Honestly, it would be more cost effective to dig the hole and then line it with just a rubber pond liner (available off Ebay in various sizes). You'll want to get an EPDM liner, 45 mils thick. Most of the ones you'll find on ebay are from Firestone.

Is there any particular reason you want to line it with concrete? There are concrete sealants that you can use, including a product called Pond Armor. But again, using the rubber pond liner will be much much cheaper.
