Outdoor Pond Idea: What do you think?

Okay here is the plan. Next spring I am planning to build a Large aboveground fish pond for some native catfish and goldfish. It will be 4' by 10' by 8' (2400 gallons) made from plywood and linner. Half of it will be aboveground and the other will be below ground. I want to know what you all think about this project and I will it the best that I can.

One more thing I want to know what fish would be good for this pond. I live in North Louisisana where it gets from in the 100s in summer and in the low 30s in the winter.

I wouldn't use plywood. It will rot quickly.

try some rough sawn hard timbers and bolt them together.

use pond liner and the above ground just use some cement blocks to get ur above ground height. Slam rebar and cement into the cement blocks and ur golden

Ok so I am thinking to stack some cemnet blocks and hold them with stakes and morter.

Dig down minimum 18" and build up the side walls with concrete block or river rock or whatever looks good to you. Fill up the gaps in between rocks with some type of mortar then spray a water proof rubber coating. I never liked pond liner. Maybe embed in a piece of glass for side viewing.

Is that 8ft deep or 4 ft. Sounds like it work to me. I built a inground pond 6ft deep that extended 2ft above ground. I used cemented cinder block then rubber lined the whole thing. You will still need to seal the wood since the backside will be touching the soil.
