outdoor pond MA

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not sure but I think anything above ground would freeze solid.

I know a woman who has a year round Koi pond, she puts some sort of aquatic safe antifreeze in it, and has a little fountain to keep the water in motion. So it can be done, but I imagine not with tropicals.

Also, I imagine anything above ground would freeze faster than something partially buried.

Possible of course.....the cost would be crazy. You would be much better off having it below ground as mentioned.....4 feet deep minimum in these parts. Keeping a pond for koi around here is not real hard. Tropical fish would require a crazy heater....think Jacuzzi size. if you can keep a Jacuzzi outside 104 degrees in winter why not keep 78 degrees with a similar system

Does sound crazy... but MFK's aren't what you'd call normal(:

Anything is possible but why? I would either go with a temperate/cold water in ground pond or get a monster tank inside.

My parents wouldn't be down with the whole Indoor pond thing... I guess I could go with temperate fish but that really wasnt in the plans and when you have OCD a slight change can be a living horror movie lol

thinking about doing a pond in southern NH next year...I am thinking at least 3ft, would still like a deep spot just in case. I know ice can get up to 24 inches thick around here so there is some heavy thought going into deicing or at least keeping an air hole open for gas exchange. Keeping an out door pond up to 80 degrees when it is snowing and sleeting just seems to be to much trouble. Move to Florida or Texas, then you have to worry about cooling it down.

Keep in mind small bodies of water will freeze quicker, I'd buy a hot tub and bam you are good to go. No really I don't see it happening unless u build like a heated greenhouse around it
