outdoor pond questions

Hi,

I'm currently planning to build an outdoor pond. i'm deciding whether to put a roof over it or not? is there any risk if the pond doesn't have a roof? will rain have bad effect /danger to fish? i'm planning to put 5-7 pcs arowanas in the pond. jus a little worried if the pond doesn't have a roof?
but i'm seeing lots of ponds without roof.

Aros will jump. How big is the pond? Try bird netting to keep them in & predators out.

how about rain? heard of anybody losing pond in fish due to rain fall?

make sure you have an overflow so ur fish dont wash out in a heavy rain!

not sure if ur rain is very acidic..?

Collect some rain from a gutter and test the pH. I have never had any problems w/ rain. It is naturally de-chlorinated and my fish seem to be just fine.

my pond is so dirty..does the barley break down all the crap inside of it.. it has like 6 2' koi..channel cat..and like 10 goldfish..does the pondzyme powder work ?

How deep is your pond?

Barley is very weak and takes a long time to work (straw or liquid), best to rig a vacuum and clean the bottom or at leaast pool vacuum or pool net (deep kind).

Pond Zyme plus is better for deep undisturbed ponds (ie small fish & no bottom feeders) Also an extended time product.

I don't like having to rely on artificial means to maintain a pond. What I've always worked towords is a stable easy to maintain system. As far as the roof question... I've used a couple of those tent like fabric awnings on occasion and had really good luck with them. If necessary...the better ones have the capability of attaching netting to the sides to keep out birds and other nasty creatures. They can easilly last 2 or three years... are simple to set up... and very cost effective.
