I have just finished building an outdoor pond(8'x7'x4' deep approx)

im posting on here just to see if any body can give me some general tips on keeping a pond in good condition eg

plants to introduce, fish feeding, keeping fish in good health, trying to keepwater fairly clean, what do/expect in winter and just general maintenance.

any tips are welcome cheers

Post some more specs....

What's your 20?
what kind of filter and pump are you running?

Keeping fish in good health and clean water go hand in hand. Koi and goldfish thrive on a pelleted diet with some other occasional treats (worms and fruit). Other fish will/may have other needs. Make sure not to overfeed them as well...

Plants selection will be determined by the amount of snlight the pond recieves.

the pump and filter i will be using is a:

hozelock cyprio cascade
pump rating 18w-230v
maximum flow 1000-lph-220gph
maximum head 1.5m
outlet diameter 25mm
inlet cage surface area 67.2 cm2
10.4 in2

i dont know how much water the pond holds as im not sure on the wxact measurements of the pond, ill be measuring it tomorrow n then working out exactly how much it holds.

Through the day it will get about 4-5 hours of sunlight.

You should be able to grow just about any plant with that exposure. Lillies may need a little fert. to bloom a lot.

Need to know the gals. of the pond. Shoot for at least 1X turnover on ponds. With all the crazy metric measurments I am assuming your in Europa?:D How's your winter season?

i have worked the pond out to hold approx 1500 litres or 350 gallons, i have added a couple of plants and 2 comets and a shubumpkin to kick start the bacteria etc.

Ill try and post some pictures of the building process and the finished project, later on today.
