I was thinking about doing the same. Thought about 500gal or bigger build as a privacy screen for my patio in my back yard. Would like to do tropical fresh, but I know it would cost a fortune to run in the winter, so maybe just do native cold water.

I wanted to run in the summer aswell as a grow out,
But I'm looking to go way smaller than you guys, around 90 gallon but an actual glass tank,

I have my 140 gallon in my backyard patio under an awning. Gets sun glare from early afernoon to mid day. Winter outside is cold even with two heaters. The tank is acrylic btw and I feel like my fish seem to enjoy the natural sunlight. I used to have 7 tanks in the backyard at one time.

I have kept a couple 55 gals outside in the summer, a run them on a line from, and overflow back into my pond. The shadiest spot you can find is best, or they can easily become choked with algae.

I have kept a couple 55 gals outside in the summer, and run them on a line from, and overflow back into my pond. I did this to help maintain temp consistent, a sunny day can overheat tank quickly, as can a cool night drop temp 10'F in a short time.
The shadiest spot you can find is best keep the tank from overheating, and from becoming choked with algae.
