I need to relocate three tropical catfish from their current 125g aquarium. While exploring the idea of building a new aquarium, the option of an outdoor pond (which was their terminal destination anyway) came up.
I live in Tennessee where we have long, very cold winters and short, very hot summers. I have no knowledge of ponds outside of what I've glanced over around the forums, and am curious of what a tropical pond would require chemically (pH, ammonia, water treatment, starter bacteria, etc.,) mechanically (filtration, water circulation, heating,) and for protection (did I mention those stray cats and raccoons?)
I hope to acquire a pond that is greater than 750g, and house them in that size for several years. Once I move homes I will relocate them to a much larger pond, where they can continue to grow to full length.
