Well my convicts evidently are not normal. They do not want children! They spawn constantly, but consume them at the wiggler stage every time. Normally most say that is a good thing, but my female is a marble con so I would like to get a spawn from them to breed her back to one of her sons. Then I can get some more that are marbled and can pass them on to you guys as well as my LFS who says if I breed marble ones they will buy them.
They are in a 35 gal tank with a African Knife (he is a stunted 5" knife that came with one of my large tanks). When the cons spawn, he stays well out of their way and is quite adept at dodging the male. Anyway, I left him in there thinking they needed someone to defend the eggs from. They still eat them. They wait until they all are bouncing and then they are gone. No, they are not moving them. I have watched. She guards them and fans them well right until the last one starts vibrating, then she swims over to the male and they both go back and start munching.
I know I need to move the eggs but am not sure when to do this. I also am not sure exactly what I need to do for the eggs once I do. Suggestions please.
By the way I have had her since last March (3") and him since June (3 1/2"). They started spawning 8 days after I put them together and still no free swimmers.
