just wondering if anyone does this. I'm hoping to put a pond out by out back deck and was wondering if anyone runs their filters inside to their basement. would be a good place to hide the filtration instead of building a small shed or something. I'm sure the pipes would sweat a ton in the winter but it might help keep the water warmer? might keep the pond from freezing over in the winter?

Trev, I am president of the local Koi club and have a few friends with koi ponds that have their filters and pumps either in a basement or under thier deck. The water level of your pond compared to your basement may dictate what kind of filter you use. To bad you are not located closer then I could easily give you a tour. Unless the pond is very small inside plumbing will not keep it from icing over but will keep your pump/filter from ice problems.Several of us have heaters on our ponds. My pond is 17,000 gallons and I heat mine to 50 during winter with a gas heater.[BTW you do not need a larger pump due to head pressure]Trev if you still have my cell # and have questions give me a call. check out this very old thread http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?70791-My-17-000-gallon-koi-pond
