My male JD is just dominating the tank. I have two females in with him that are pretty much the same size as him and he has them both up in the corners of the tank hiding all day and night. When they come out he chases them around until they go back up into the corner. At one point, when he was smaller than the female, he paired up with her and breed. Now hes just a madman and wants nothing to do with her or the other female in the tank. Is there a way I can get him to calm down and hopefully pair up with one of these fish instead of trying to kill them?

well, what size are they and what size tank are they in?

If you don't have spots for the females to hid in that might be a start, but if the tank isn't big enough there's a problem too, which is why i asked the tank size

They are in a 60 gallon tank (a 120 gallon split by a divider). The male is about 5inches the female is about 4.5inches and the other female is about 3 inches. it was just him and the 4.5 inch female but he was being too mean so i added the other female to see if he would stop abusing the 4.5 inch female. He was never aggressive until i split the dominate male on the other side of the tank with his mate. Every since then this male, who was the sub dominate male, started getting extremly aggressive with the two females. I dont think they are too crowded... any other reasons? or any ways i can get him to stop being so aggressive and more into breeding with me females? I was thinking of taking him out and putting him into a 30 gallon by himself for a day or 2 and then reintroducing him. Would this help in any way?

Add some dithers. This kinda behavior will lead to 1 or both females being killed. Do you see any nipped fins, or the females breathing heavy, colors changing etc? All the stress combined with chasing and biting will lead to death.

i have them at 79 degrees, i want the water warm enough for breeding...
Dosen't sound like you are going to have to worry about that. I think your male is ***. :grinno:

Im just going to take him out then. I put 4 giant danios in the tank and it didnt help anything. Im just going to take him out for now. He was nipping one of the other females so i had to take her out. I might throw him on the other side of the divider and let the dominate male pick on him for a few days and see how he likes it lol. No im just going to take him out for a little and feed my females really well for a few weeks and get them nice and fat, and then maybe when i reintroduce him, he will think the females are sexier and breed with them instead of attacking them.

do a wc and rearrange the tank decor that may help
