I just droped a pond pump in with my 5 inch rhom. It is getting right into the current and looks like he's loving it. I am concerned that he may become over worked. the best thing i guess is to give him a hiding spot, but he never comes out. Im trying to get him used to me. any oppinions would be great.

give him at least a couple dead spots so he can rest if he wants.. otherwise he will be super stressed from having to swim all the time..
as for getting him used to you.. just gonna have to be around the tank more i guess. ive never kept a rhom but with all my skittish fish i just move them to a tank that is in a high traffic area and they get more "friendly" with people..
my discus tank is no more than 10 feet from where we eat, so naturally they are accustomed to having people around.. they also "beg" for food when people walk by the tank..

put a few plants (fake/real) to nullify some of the current. These can double as hiding places as well.
