I have heard many people on this site say you are only supposed to feed your tank every other day or only a couple times per week because it is bad to "over-feed your fish" Why is this? One of my favorite parts of having my fish is being able to come home and feed them every day and watch them eat. As long as I take out the extra food after 5 min so it doesn't rot, is this still bad for them?

probably because the tank can't handle the extra bioload in some cases. I feed mine a few times a day

Overfeeding technically involves leaving leftover foods lying around. Feed your fish sparingly. If your fish happen to be adults, then once a day feeding is sufficient enough. Juveniles however will need more small meals a day than adults do. Remember that underfeeding is always better than overfeeding. Always feed small meals instead of allowing the fish to gorge everything at once. This will allow time for them to digest their foods properly otherwise you simply increase risks of constipation and bloating especially if you are not giving your fish a high fiber diet at all.
