Over Filtering Tank ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It really depends who you ask.. I personally think if you run too many gph through your filters it doesn't give time for the BB to convert the waste. Now if your asking if you can over filter compared to stocking? I'd say no since the BB will only colonize so much depending on what waste is avail. To them.

In my opinion, unless your fish are pinned against the glass, I don't see a negative side effect to over filtration.

too much flow...that would be a problem ...too much bb mmm..no , probably not a problem

You can't have too much BB. If they don't have enough waste to consume the excess dies off.

I wouldnt think you can overfilter, it's just a diminishing return kinda thing. Just watch flow as others stated and how fish handle it.

ya that's pretty much the point of the post.....:)

Most of the main points have been stated already, but there is also the extra electrical cost that comes with extra filtration. Personally, I run with about double what is recommended because I like the redundancy and having backup if one of my filters goes out but I won't go more than that.
