I was wondering if it was possible to over filtrate aquariums?

When I get my FX5 delivered (still no sign yet....:nilly:) I am intending to leave one of my Eheim 2028 Pro II running on one end of my 125g tank ( to keep the BB levels stable), whilst taking the bio media from the 2026 on the other end to seed the FX5.

Will it be ok to permanently leave the 2028 on? I cant see why there should be a problem...but thought I'd check...... :D

all my tanks are over filtered and ive never had a prob!
as long as you dont turn your tank into a whirlpool your ok in my opinion anyway

you can over filtrate a tank when the filters are actually knocking the fish around otherwise it is never a problem.

I agree with the above people. Over filtration is not a problem, over circulation can be.

use spray bars if needed

sounds like the beginning of a you know tank is overfiltered when...
anyway, no it's really hard to overfilter a tank, just look at some of the SW reef nuts who've got a several hundred gallon tank doing 50x+ turnover rates through sump and fuges that have almost as much or more volume than the display.

u cant over filter mechanicaly but get a good bio base going so make sure u have some nitrates for them to eat.... so basicaly dont pack ur cans with nitrate and ammonia removers

There is a point were you will only be wasting money on adding filters and power consumption. So yes over filtration is possible, for those who think not go out tomorrow and buy two FX5s to add to your tank:D
