Overfeeding question

My wife was trying to be nice and feed my fish for me
cuz she said they were acting like they were hungry, so she
fed them. She accidently poured half a can of pellets in the tank.


How harmful is this, cuz all the food has been eaten, and now my tank
is filthy

I am not by anyway and expert. I would do water change as needed and put them on a small diet for a day or two. Should be ok thoe.

It could be totally harmless but you could also have an ammonia spike.
I wouldn't feed them at all te next couple days, and test for ammonia. If you read ammonia I would do a 50% water change.

Do a water change. I would continue feeding them normally. LOL what type of beasts do you have anyway!

yeah like others have said, maybe do a couple extra water changes this week and I too would hold off on feeding them for a day. how big are the fish and what kind are they? is there a huge noticeable difference now in their appearance?

2 baby texas 1"
1 jd 6"
3 convicts 3-5"
1 black belt 5"

no noticeable change to appearance
or behavior. I just didnt want to wake
up to a tank full of dead fish

Do some tank parameter tests, then do a WC if needed. I would hold off feeding for 3-5 days if they ate ALL that food.
