I am just curious on opinions here. I have a 15g tank (55x32x32cm) and I was wondering if a fluval 205 external (rated 185gph (empty?)) would be too much? I know I can dial it down, but will this have any ill effects on the motor? I will be running only sponges and bio rings. Nothing else.

Please give me some opinions!

I don't know a lot about that filter Grant but I don't think that dialing it down would do any harm. I couldn't tell you if it would be too strong.

it is good to over filter you just don't want too much water current in the tank that the fish cant swim properly

Thanks both. I will be putting it on the tank tomorrow and I will let you know how it goes!

If it does anything like this to your tank then you know you need a smaller filter.
