I"m planning on getting a 125 from either glass cages or a lfs and I'd like it drilled so I can use a wet/dry. Why are the overflows always long (and quite large) black boxes? Why can't it just be a bulkhead with some pvc piping up to the desired water level with a strainer on it? On another note I plan on turning a 20 into a wet/dry with some scrubbies and using 2 aqua clear 110s, 1 for mechanical, other for biological. Do you think this would be enought for a 125 or should I add say a rena xp3 to it?

If you don't want to have a overflow box then consider having the tank drilled on the back wall of the tank where you want the water level. I think the 20 gal sump should be fine. I would prefer to go larger on the sump.

I think I'll just got with a sump filled to the brim with media, spending 160 on a xp3 with way less than the amount of media I could put into a sump is hard to justify. I've heard that wet/drys don't need as high of a gph to be effective, and I have a mag 3 sitting around (from my other sump), would that be enough or should I opt for more flow rate? Would this design work?
