Hi All,

I am thinking of setting up an wet/dry filter for my 180g,but unfortunately I dont have any holes drilled in my tank,I was just wondering what would be the best overflow box to use.

I am getting a 32x20x16 Sump and i'm putting in 4ltr of Seachems Pond Matrix with some Jap mat and filter floss at the top.

I only have 100mm from the back of the tank to the wall behind,I was thinking of getting this one http://www.thereefshop.com.au/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=20&products_id=1188

Any suggestions ar idea's would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Peter

They all scare me, almost every one I saw said it recommends the aqua lifter pump, I am not a fan of any overflow that requires a pump to make it work. That all i need is for that silly pump to go out after a year when i have fogotten about it, only to wake up to a flood. I like my diy overflow from the stickies, not as neat looking as a custom box overflow, but just works on its own no matter what.

Also thats way to much for that, it looks exactly like the CPR overflows rebranded, or heck maybe the CPR's are rebanded. also it only has one single output , where as the CPR's have dual outputs.

There's nothing to fear about off the shelf overflows...except the price. They don't require a pump to work. They just need a pump to return the water to the tank so they keep working :D And when a manufacture recommends a specific brand, it is only because they have a monetary interest in the other brand. (Any brand will do.)

The advantage to clear overflows is you can see when they are getting a build up of air in them. You can take corrective action before the system involuntarily shuts down.

As for one brand to the next, the differences are insignificant. Preference for a particular brand will vary person to person. What you really need to know is that the model you select will flow more water than the pump can return to the tank.
