I'm looking at getting a CPR overflow. The one I'm looking at sticks out 5" from the back of the tank. This is pretty far to stick out in my living room. Can I put the overflow on the side of the tank? Will there be any negatives putting it there?

shouldn't have any negatives, put the returns on the other side of the tank to get maximum water movement all over the tank.
It will be fine. I have a 75g that I draw and return from the same side. It does exceptionally well.
