hey guys
i was using the drain/overflow size calculator
and type in 700gph and was wondering what this means

Recommended minimum drain pipe diameter = 1.09 inches
Recommended minimum linear overflow size = 11 inches

and would i be able to use the beananimal overflow with these sizes?
and the size of the tank im using is a 35 gallon tank

thanks
Thomas

You would want 1 1/4" ID PVC for the overflow.

I'm not exactly sure what it is telling you. Do you have a link to what you were using?

For what it's worth, I have Herbie setup using 1" pipes, draining a 1017gph pump. A full siphon will handle A LOT more flow than a regular siphon/overflow that has air trapped in it also.

I was using a 1.5 inch ID for my drain pipe to get 700gph (it actually would do more if I had the sump pumps to do it), but I believe whoever responded with 1.25 inches ID is correct.

1" bulkheads and 1" piping will be more than enough I say. If you look at Beananimal's design, he's using 1" bulkheads, with 1.5" piping, and says he easily handling 2000gph.

After looking at the link, I agree with J. You're running a full siphon, so the flow rate will be higher. The tool you were using is based of of gravitational flow, which is different than flow rates under a siphon. Plus, you will have multiple drains. 700 gph should be a piece of cake with 1".
