I've got two black overflow covers that came with my 500 gallon, but they were only taped into place. I was just wondering if siliconing them on is normal or if there is another way I should do it...

Thanks,
Michael

I have only had one tank with a corner overflow and it was siliconed in place. If there is a way to snap them into place that would be great, more than once I had to get a fish out of there that had figured out a way in. If this is a new, store bought tank I would contact the store and see what they say. Seems odd that they would be lose if they are meant to be siliconed in place.

silicone means your only gonna have to cut it out at some point in time. why do you want to cover it? noise? if so, build a Durso standpipe

It's the standard black cover that goes into the tank to cover up the glass to hide the view of the piping, etc. Not a top for it. Sorry for any confusion.

Yeah, I figured it would just be a quick silicone job but wanted to wait and ask to be safe. Seems like they have should come siliconed into place, doing it myself will allow a lot of crap to get in that tiny inbetween space if I don't do it absolutely 100% perfectly.

I saw you other thread! So there are glass wall behind the corner overflows (black pieces)?

Yup. The overflows are glass built right against the tank.

If they dont float, they should stay in place if just placed up against the overflows. A small amount of silicone should hold them either way.

The fish will definitely knock them off if they aren't sealed on, I'll try it out tonight.
