Hello, I have a 75 gallon glass sump that I'd like to set up on a drip system. I don't trust myself drilling the glass. Is there any way I can overflow ~24 gpd out of it without adding a bulkhead? Thanks.

Just drill it. That's alot easier than level switches/pumps. Gravity doesn't break. What if electricity goes out while you're on vacation and the pump that comes on to drain water outta the sump can't come on. Gonna run a shutoff on the fresh water supply that closes a valve there when there's no electricity? Or is the Auto Water Changer on the aquarium gonna be one more thing on the list to remember to turn off before you leave the house for a few days? It's complicated. More moving parts.

Just drill a hole in the sump, let gravity do the rest. Now, you only have to run a hose outta the house.

Makes good sense. I have a floor drain right next to the tank too. Just have to work up the courage to drill it. Any advice?

Go slow. Read directions from several places several times, and get a quality bit made to drill glass. Glass-holes.com lists the saw you need for the size bulkhead you want to have, and they sell the cool black bulkheads, too.

I have a 125 gallon sump, drip 40 gallon per day, and my drain in my sump is just a 3/4 inch PVC going out through the wall.

I drilled my sump halfway between the top and bottom of the sump. And I have an elbow and a short PVC piece inside the sump to fine tune sump water level--a standpipe that's easy to shorten.

Thanks. I have an almost identical setup in my 540. I'm dripping 40 gpd and using an 1/2" flex overfkow that could handle a ton more flow. I'm just Leary about cracking the glass. My other sumo is a 100 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank.
