What steps can i do to stop my Filter (drums no lids) from over flowing when the pumps fail. Or any other problem that happens? i dont want 240g of water draining out the room. The filter is simple... it just gravity fed from the bottom over the side into the first filter then skimmer to the next and next and them last box just has the pump inside it and going back into the tank. This is my fear of such a big tank. Any help would be nice. Id like to make lid but i dont think i can make them water tight. Cuz its just thick plastic. about 1/4 tick. thanks

figure out how much water your filter will hold, then raise your intake hose so that not more than that amount can leave the tank.

But what about Skimming of the ground? i was allways told to keep the intake about 1-2inch from the bottom. Or cleaning take care of this?

Your not just using siphon tubes are you?

Or this http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15733

Put in anti-siphon holes in the overflow pipes, 1/4" holes 90* apart at ypur lowest safe water level.

Will your tank hold the return water after siphon is cut?

You may have to adjust the return pump level to shut down before it floods the tank if not.

You can pull water from any level (usually two) and return should be directed to stir up the bottom so the overflow can pick it up.

So i dont have to have the intake close to the ground? i like that idea, if im getting it right. The water will still run into my filter if the pump fails. And only end up with a little bit of water? Gues i have to make sure i have some some void for free water. To bad i cant make the filter the same level as the water line :\ i like my pond for that reason lol.

Or should i just get a anti-siphon holes like u said? i forgot all about these little things :)
