Feeling very fortunate this morning that I caught my mistake in time, as well as stayed up till 1 in the morning reluctantly to fix it.
So I just bought a house and that means I have to move the awesome but huge pain in the ass 300 I have. (Marineland 300 deep dimension). So I got it there and in place. Put the acrylic wet/dry sump on one side like I had, and on the other decided to eliminate the FX6 to just use another (home made) sump. So I get it all build and hooked up, fill the tank right about to the top one night and then top it off last night to get it cycling and get them in it!
Testing the water level by shutting off the return pump to check where I'm at, and the acrylic sump stops right where it should and I think cool I'm good. Laying there on the ground on my phone and looking at the one I made and noticed hmmm the waters still flowing into it.. weird. So I watch it and it just keeps filling and I'm like ok.. wtf. So I kick the pump in and do it again and it's still happening. And then I thought about it and realized why! When I had bought the tank and made the setup with the FX6, we had drilled into the overflow a few inches from bottom to let it intake towards the bottom to help clean the ****. So basically if my power had shut off the tank would have drained itself alllllll the way but 3 inches from empty.
When I realized this it was late after a 12 hour work day, and I was about 95% convinced of "**** it I'll deal with it on my day off" what are the chances I'll lose power in the next day with clear weather ahead, but thought about it more and said **** I probably shouldn't take a chance, and angrily stayed up till 1 in the morning changing the hoses and plumbing and getting the FX6 back in it.
At work this morning and get a text from my power company that we had a power outage at 10:30 and it will be back on in a few hours!! If I didn't do that I would have been ****ed!
Moral of the story: double check **** and trust your instinct and don't take chances!
