I have a 300 gallon acrylic tank that the overflow is centered, width and length. It is a eye sore, not to mention that by the time the water flow circulates around it leaves all the crap in the center around the bottom of the overflow box. Im going to move it but im not sure the best location to put it to get the most out of it. . I was also thinking about cutting the box in half so that i would have 2 overflows on each side mabe. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thats ugly. I prefer the corner quarter round ones. With a black background, you can hardly tell they are there.

I like to have a current pushing the water towards the overflow, so I have mine off to one side...but my overflow is one of the plastic ones that fit standard non drilled tanks. If you move yours, I would go with either the corners or as described above, with a current pushing water towards the overflow.

Wow i though i might get more feedback. I really need some thoughts on the sump move. Im hoping to do it this weekend

I would personally just leave the overflow, paint the back black so it dose not stick out and grab some powerheads to up the current right where you need it in order to keep junk suspended in the water to be filtered out. Easier and cheaper imo. As far as the feedback, unless you have a "can I keep X fish in X size tank" question your responses will be fairly limited, and in the case of that particular question the response is almost always no.....because keeping a betta in a 180g tank is just plain mean.

lol... I agree. I would paint the back, and increase the over-all circulation of the tank.. by powerheads.. or increasing your sumps output. or your gonna keep having the same issues It sounds like. and/Or look into a 3d background, I've seen some very nice looking ones that resemble tree trunks that will compleately hide your overflow. You have alot more options then just re-locating your overflow... ime overflow posistion in tanks doesn't seem to matter much. Whats your turn-over rate now?... and this question is probablly better for the equipment sub-forum... you'll get some more in-depth answers from the tech guys ;)

those centered overflows are usually used in SW tanks.
if it was me i'd remove the overflow and put a screen
on the drain and return and a ball valve to control the
flow of drain/return. honestly i hate overflows. they do
a real good job of surface cleaning but without powerheads
and etc it does a crummy job on cleaning the rest of the tank
imo.

In my opinion if you are going to remove it and you have the space, why not take it completely out the tank and mount it to one end of the outside of the tank. This serves two purpose, it no longer an eye sore especially if you can hide it externally, and it gives you all your tank floor print. Just my opinion...

Well i do have a 3D rock background on it now but the sump is still verry visible. It used to be a sw tank, but i got it for a really good deal so of course i bought it. I think im going to try Tomojsg's idea.
