overflow noise, is this normal? can it be reduced?

hi all,

i have recently set up a used 180 gallon for freshwater.

the tank makes alot of noise in the overflow and i was wondering how it can be reduced. the overflow doesnt have much water as the flow going down into the wet dry is too much and too fast and it makes that gurgling noise..

my return pump does not make as much noise.. and when i fill the tank up with water from the return pump, the overflow would fill up with water and the noise would decrease but only for a couple seconds before it sucks all the water down again.. i was wondering if theres a possibility to fix it if not i will have a constant waterfall sound in my house..

Put more sponges in the overflow box to cushioning the noise. You will need to play around where the spots to put in the overflow box to reduce the noise.
