I'm thinking about drilling my 120 and adding a sump. I know it's best to have an internal overflow box due to noise. However, my tanks are outside on my lanai, so noise isn't too big of a deal. That said, how loud would it be if I just used a turned up elbow with an extension pipe to regulate my water level?

I do this now for my drip system. But it's only doing 2-gallons per hour, not 800.

If noise isbno issue then go for it. Speaking from personal experience it will be very loud though. Have you considered turning the elbow down and drilling a syphon break in the side of the elbow? It is much quieter and serves the same purpose.

I had not thought of that... great idea. I entertain outside, so very loud will not work.

Question... How do I control the water level if I use a turned down elbow?
