I finally got my 585 overflow sealed right. Well at least so far it hasn't leaked again. My question is how can I make the waterfall noise stop of be a little less noticable? I do not have a top for this tank yet but I will once I get something to make a template with. And the should cut the noise but what else is there I can do? I don't want to add a buch of prefilter b/c it will be to hard to change b/c I can't reach the bottom of the overflow very easy.

What else can I do?

durso standpipe ftw

however this means the waterlevel in the overflow will be higher.... if you want to keep the level in the overflow low the durso will keep the gurgling quiet (just set it lower)

to lessen the "waterfall" noise use a clamp and some filterfloss on the inside of the overflow.. it will give the water something to "flow" down insted of "falling"

The filter floss is a good idea b/c I do NOT want to take the pipes out unless I have to. I am at the point that they are in and working and I don't want any more hassle with them lol

I think the water level will rise in the box when I add my second pump. right now it is only running half volume.

restrict the outflow from the overflow to raise the water level in the sump to about 3/4 full.......solves everything (it was the simplest solution to my gurgling and waterfall noise)

foam blocks also work.. yer a smart guy youll get it

It sould fill more when I add the second pump. I have to wait till at least wend. b/c I had to order my check valves. When they vcome in i'll fully plumb the tank and then the wate level in the overflow box should rise at least a little more.

Thanks for the vote of confindance. I didn't add ball valves to the sump inlets. b/c I couldn't find any locally. and I got ahead of myself. If I decide to redo the plumbing later on I will add them.
