Should I be concerned about this? Seems the filter pads aren't letting water through fast enough (and I just rinsed them out before taking this video). But sure enough, as soon as I put the cartridges back in, water starts going through the overflow areas (as shown in vid).

How much does this affect water conditions?

Looks like you need either new pads, or to clean them more. I would boil the pads unless they are specifically used for housing bb. Boiling them should make them poof up and let water through better.

Clean the pads with a kitchen sprayer. Mine are like brand new when I do that.

I've been running them under a bath faucet at full power (but at around room temperature). I'll try it again today with hot water to see if that helps.

Ok I just repeated what I usually do to rinse them off, but used hot water rather than room temp. Seems to have done the trick...the filter pads have been back in place for almost an hour and no dripping/overflow yet. Thanks all

Try the kitchen sprayer next time to see how the two methods compare.

To get more force from the faucet, put your finger over the screen to make it spray (same principle as using your thumb over a garden hose to make it spray or shoot farther).

dosent untreated tap water sorta defeat the purpose of the whole "bio wheel" concept...

No, the OP isn't cleaning the bio-wheel or bio-media. The pads that the OP is cleaning are mechanical filtration rather than bio. If he were to replace the pads, any bb in them would be lost anyway.

One of my filters does this a lot. Especially right after a water change when every thing gets stirred up. For some reason though it only ever happens just after 5am when it seems incredibly loud. A good washing usually solves the problem.
