After finally deciding on the type of filtration I am going to use on my new 260, I have a question about sump overflows. The tank will be drilled in the base to accommodate the plumbing, builder just waiting for hole positions now so need to make up my mind. As the tank has not been drilled I can be very flexible.
I am not sure what the benefits are of using the herbie system over the bean system or bean over herbie,I know that the herbie uses 2 pipes where as the bean uses 3,after doing a fair amount of research via the internet it seems that these two systems seem to keep coming up as the quietest overflow setup around, which is possibly the most important thing after the filtration being effective, also there is the advantage with either system you have built in redundancy if one standpipe becomes blocked. Is anybody using either of the systems for their overflow or something else using multiple standpipes, I know the duros system seems to be popular but various reef forums seems to question how easy it is to get the durso quite.
This will be on a freshwater tank with sump of between 200 and 300 litres, I am not looking for huge flow rates, somewhere around 750-900 GPH, as there will also be a 1/2 canisters plumbed in to allow water and gunk to be drawn from lower in the tank.

I use the Herbie method as I have 2 standpipes in my overflow box. It is silent. I used to have dual Dursos in my overflow, but I got tired of the noise... they are quiet, but not silent. I can't speak to the Bean method.

You haven't mentioned your plans for the overflow box. Will you go with one or two... internal or external?

It will be used in an internal overflow box built in the center of the tank ,it has to be internal as the tank has to go flush against the wall so no room behind the tank,as i dont want to see the weir box internals from either side of the tank.
The fact that you are running one and it is silent is really important as it will be in the living room and my wife will pick up on the noise.
Thanks for taking the time to reply
