overflow problem

Here is the situation, I recently set up a pre drilled 125 with two 1.25 inch drain lines going to the SUmp. I currently have a cheap rio2100 pump which does about 350gph at 4/5 feet.

This set up runs perfect, but when I try to add a stronger pump, the system does not run smoothly. One of the following occurs

-Either the pump quickly empties the sump
-The sump/tank level off at a goof balance, but the overflows make this terrible gulping or slurping noise, like it is sucking in all air.

What am I doing wrong!! Please help

What type of overflows are you using? What is the rating of the stronger pump at the head you require?

They are 1.25 inch bulkheads, I have tried a 700GPH and a 990gph

Your overflow are doing exactly what they should be. You just need to add a noise suppressor to the setup.

they are really supposed to be that loud!? It is a loud slurping from the intake..I am not sure I understand how these hook up

What type of drains are you using. I use durso's and was able to get them wisper quiet using ballvalves on the drain lines and balancing the drain with the supply.

My biggest problem was the waterfall noise from the water spilling over the weir, had to raise the durso up till it hit the glass canopy.

To stop the slurping noise, simply push down a 1/4" of tubing down the hole.
