I was just looking at the glasscages site at the overflows, and was just wondering why all 4 holes are drilled inside the overflow box? Wouldn't the output holes be the only ones in the box, and the input holes be outside the box? I don't understand the theory of 2 larger and 2 smaller holes inside the same overflow box.
The output holes would either be outside the box or have a pvc pipe going up and over the box into the tank.
The only holes that need to be in the overflow box is the input holes, i just cannot see why you would have an overflow box and have the input outside of them
Well, when I was saying input being outside the box, I meant the input for the tank (sump water flowing into the tank). I see what you mean now. So if I ordered a tank with the holes drilled and overflow in place, I'll ask that the output holes (sump to tank) be outside the box.
Oh, and when I get the tank, the 2 pumps I currently have are a 1000gph and a 720gph. Think that would be enough for a 300G with a 55G sump? It will have an overflow on each end of the tank. Another tempting setup is glasscages center overflow in the middle of the tank. hmmmmm....
Also thinking of setting up the sump as a refugium as well, the left side being the sump, the middle as a planted refugium, and the right for the sump output back to the tank.
The tank is going to be a 300G Wide, with a 55G sump under it. I currently have 2 water pumps, still new in the box. External pumps to be mounted under the stand. One is 1000GPH and the other is 720GPH I think. Would this be too much flow? When I order the tank, it will either have 2 overflows, one on each end of the tank in the back corner, or a single overflow in the center of the tank.
As for the 55G sump, I will be converting my 55G tank to a sump. It will either be a full sump, or will divide it into smaller sections, and have a sump, refugium, and output section.
Hope this clears it up a bit....

I also now understand when you said the output will have the pipe going over the top of the box and into the tank. You did make it clear, so for the original post, yes, now I understand.
I think it depends on where you're talking about stuffing it. There's a guy on here that put filter socks where the overflow piping flows into the first part of his sump box. To me, that seems like the best place because if you actually put it in the overflow box, it's gonna just be the edges of whatever media you use that does any filtering because of how the water runs down the wall of the overflow box.
