Hey, i'm making a sump for my 125G- i'm using a 29g that my friend gave me for my skimmer+filter+heater- What i'm thinking of doing is using the CPR bakpak- CS100- overflow with 800GPH- and then having a 900 GPH return pump - I was thinking this one http://kensfish.com/senwaterpumps.html

Does this sound good/would it work- or is this cutting it too close 800 to 900?
Thanks a ton for any help!

It should work just fine. After you figure in head height, it won't be 900 gph. probably more like 700-750

i'm thinking either that one or a mag 7? which do you think would be better? I was told I'm not really looking to max out your sump/overflow setup, the water will be cleaner if you put a smaller pump on the return. The overflow/return is really meant for cleaning and shouldn't be thought of as flow for the tank, that is a tiny side effect of the return.

do you agree or do you think the 9.5 would be better?

I would rather go with the mag 7. like Pharoah said it all depends on your head height and at an average tank height of 5'ft-6'ft the mag 7 will push more than that sen pump.

I have a Mag 7 on my 55 gallon and I'm still using two more Koralia 2 pumps (600 gph each) to obtain what I think will be an optimal amount of flow for my tank. That being said, I would think a Mag 9.5 (like Mr.Reef said) would be minimal for a 125 gallon. However, I'm trying to grow corals, so I suppose it really comes down to what you are going to put in the tank...and personal preference.
