What if I used an overflow rated for 1600gph but the pump I was using for now only pumped 1000gph? Would I use ball valves to slow down the overflows?

The overflow is rated for 1600gph what that means is that you should use a pump with an outflow of less than 1600gph.The overflow will take out as much as your pump will push if it over 1600gph it will flood the overflow.You don't slow down overflows but can reduce your pump with a ball valve
OK so I can get a 1600gph overflow and use it with a smaller pump for now and when I have the money, I can go with a pump that pumps closer to 1600gph but not over that right??
