Overflows for large tanks?

I'm planning to get a 180 gal tank and was wondering how I should filter it. One of the possibilities is a sump or wet/dry and I was wondering how many of you use overflow boxes in your tanks.

If possible, could you tell the size of the tank and describe the overflows?
