Over the next week or so I will be making alot of hides/caves for twelve small aquariums. They range between 30"x15"x18* and 3'x2'x2' the exception is a 5'x2'x2'. I will also be trying to decide on pairs of smaller American/West African cichlids to spawn. Over many years of being in the hobby I have kept and bred alot of species but recently I find myself thinking of returning to where it began and giving some overdue time and care to some of the most neglected species or those commonly referred to as beginners species. The majority of these aquariums are very small so ideally I would like to keep smaller species. If anyone has some suggestions I'm all ears as there are so many to choose from. At this point I won't rule out any species regardless of water chemistry, husbandry, locality or requirements. One last thing if there is anyone with pictures of their fish or information/pictures of regional variations I would be grateful.

I agree, Salvini will definitely be in one of the tanks. Being towards the larger end of what I'm looking for I think one of the 3x2x2s will be in order. Ill source some juvies to pair once me and the other half have finished this diy cave project.

If I can find some Hemichromis Cristatus or Stellifer that would be great. It's been a while since I've seen them for sale though. I haven't kept any woodcats for years but yes I really enjoyed the T. Intermedia I used to have. I don't actually believe I've owned any of the nanochromis species so great suggestion. I have seen some pelvicachromis taeniatus for sale today so I may have to pick some up before they sell.

Hara jerdoni - Asian moth cats/anchor cats. You will need a magnify glass to sift through the detritus for eggs though.
