For the past few days my 7" poly senegal Bichir has been swimming almost constantly and nose rubbing ( He's in a 55 with a Jack Dempsey that he gets along with) Is this cause for concern ? He lost his appetite for 2 days last week but it came back and he's still swimming around rubbing the glass.... Makes me want to dump a bag of tricaine in there some times.

Hmm I keep it at a steady 79
Parameters are
ph 8.2
Ammonia 0
Nitrite0
Nitrate 30

My water comes out of the tap with 26 ppm Nitrates im in the process of going at the city about this.
I added some carbon to one of my HOB's maybe if there is something in there chemical wise that could remove it.
The only thing I can think of I changed would be I put a power head in its a 300 GPH maxi jet . Do they hate heavy flow ?

I just remembered I salted the tank over a week ago because of a scare. I changed more than half the water since and he seems to be calming down. I think it was the salt are they not very tolerant of it ?

I have mine in with a prety heavy flow and it doesnt seem to bother him. Mabey the JD is bothering him a night? Do you ever hear any splashing?
Nope and I stay up pretty late after the lights are off. Its possible though this Jack Dempsy killed a really robust Blue Acara :nilly:

I do remember your previous thread about your water situation but also remember that senegals are super active so it could just be a happy fish!

I've got salt in my tank as well, it's actually very beneficial.
