Went out with some friends Thursday to run deep in hopes of looking for some tuna and a swordfish or two. We left the dock at around 1100 Thursday morning and did not arrive back to the dock until 1400 Friday. We ended up running 150+ miles in total. I will say one thing though, being nearly 70 miles from land with nary an artificial light with in sight and no moon until just before dawn, the stars looked fantastic!
Unfortunately the sword bite never came and no tuna spotted so that made for a LONG cold night.
On the way in we did some high speed jigging for AJs and we HAMMERED them, well should I say they hammered us?! I LOVE high speed jigging for strong fish. Nothing like jigging as fast as possible and then getting slammed by a big ole reef donkey ripping drag off a reel with 20+ pounds of drag! We managed several double, triple and even quadruple hook ups. We also managed some very nice gag and scamp grouper that unfortunately had to go back.
Here are some pics and a vid...
