I have been trying to read as much as I can before I post but my wife is home now so I have to surrender the computer.

I (Think) I have a 700 (aprox) liter tank. I measured it 1.2m x 640mm x 640 mm.

I Google on a conversion rate for US gallons and it seems that's about 185 US gallons.

Does that seem about right? Have I got something wrong in my calculation?

I'm posting this because other overseas peaple might be interested also. This is a great site for tips, advice, nice pictures and all sorts of good stuff.

But all of us in the rest of the world find it hard to relate to US gallons as a measure. Well I do anyway. I thought I was talking smallish tank for Monster Fish Keepers. It seems pretty big to me.

Ive got my wife doing laps in it until I finish typing so just please help and check my calcualtions. Yeah I'll do more research and maybe post a table. But If I'm wrong that would look bad.

"OK darling you can get out of the tank now"

She's only a small woman.

Look at the Top Center Tool Bar here on this page. There is a "Conversion" calculator built right in.

well i did a little converting for you and what i came up with is 1.2m= 4 feet x 640mm = 2 feet x 640 mm = 2 feet, so 4x2x2 = 453.07 liters..or 119.86 gallons..it will probably be a pretty heavey tank for the wife to pick up even with a friend. 120 gallon all glass tank weighs about 230 lbs empty.....

Doh, "conversion calculator built right in" You can tell I am new to the site.

But thanks for the replies. I am happy to be accepted even though I seem to post silly questions. I don't know where I got the 700 liter figure from. I guess I just made a mistake. I'm good at that. I have since used the calculater on this computer and got the figure you guys came up with. I did it on paper with a pencil and an old brain last time.

But OK about 120 - 130 gallons depending on how full it is. That's a good enough figure so I can compare to posts on this site. Thanks a lot.

And yes my wife can't lift it. I bought a trolly to move it from the car (empty of course ;0) Me and her managed that. I got my brother, a big strong policeman to help me get it on the stand.

One wouldn't suspect that keeping little fish (hey even big fish are sort of little) would require so much heavy lifting. Even before I put 500Kg of water in it. I have a pipe though. I don't carry buckets (much) I can fill it from a tap and drain it into the bath.

I've been a bit sick recently which didn't help. My excuse for gettting the calculations wrong. But well after a couple of weeks in hospital being very well looked after by cute nureses and great doctors and about two months rest now I'm stsrting to feel a lot better.

At the moment the problem is that the glass for the spill way leaks. My wife bought this system on EBay. It's only a small leak you can't tell it's there when the pump is running. But if the power goes off for about 4 hours I 'm thinking flood. So I've drained the tank to below the the leak and sealed it. It's a bit of a bummer because I had niced aged water and Bio Balls with Cycle all running nicely ready to put fish in next week. I'm not sure how long to leave the silicone to cure but I think I'll err on the safe side and leave it until next weekend. It's OK I saved about half the water and I can put a bit more back before the level reaches the leak.

Thanks again

Stew

Stew,
48 hours, 72 tops. Aged water is not what you need. You should be replacing 1/4 - 1/2 of your tanks water every week or 2 anyhow so just fill it back up with good clean water.
