do u guys use oversized filtration for your cichlids. Is there a way u can go overboard by having to much current, because my reddevil is in a 40 gallon with two aquaclear 200 filters and im soon to add a hang on magnum canister filter. Is this to much.

I'm not familiar with those filters and their gph but as long as the fish can swim comfortably without being blown against the glass it should be fine.

Howdy,

always keep the natural habitat of a fish in mind and adjust your care accordingly. Red Devils live in lakes ...

:iagree: It is ok to have a lot of filtration, but not a lot of water flow. If you want to overstock your cichlid tank (the way I like cichlid tanks) then more filtration is a must. But you should not do it with HOB (hang on back) filters. Use a sump filter or a wet/dry (or a combination of the two). That way you can have all of the filtration you want and you can limit the water flow by using only one pump.

good to have a large filter for your tank. just make sure the fish is not spinning due to excessive currents.:D

Ya mean like those toilet goldfish tanks?

I have an AC110 on my 20 gallon tank. I had to set the tank up quick and it was the only extra filter I had. Once I get rid of the fish I am going to tear down the tank again.
