is it safe to put a 72" x 18" tank on a 72" x 24" angle iron stand? the stand has two front to back cross supports not including the two ends. i dunno if it's necessary to have the support all the way across the back or not. or if i could lay a piece of 1/2" or 3/4" plywood across the top to spread the weight. any input?

I have a 125 (72"x18") on a DIY stand originally built for a 180 (72"x24")
No worries, problems, or anything else.
Adding plywood was what I did.

sweet i was really hoping (and thinking) it would. i've always loved these stands and now i finally have a chance to get one. plus it'll give me a little reason to upgrade my 125 and 150 to something wider. thanks again ercnan

No problem.
The advantage in my case was being able to put the stand againt the wall, and still have room behind the 125 for HOB's.
The DISadvantage is I got a "small" tank. :):) :banhim::banhim:
