i have a 75g tank filtered by 2 emp. 400 with 300w heater. the stock in this tank is a 7in Green terror, a 7in common pleco, 6in pearsi, and 3 2in zebra danios. i thought i was ok if not understock but talking with some friends on other forums say my 75 is overstocked. do you think so?? if it is i can serparat the stock. i have 2 55 and several 30 gallon tanks that are emty. but as i said before i though i was within the limits of the fish in the 75. lol as matter of fact i even though it could have a few more fish in the tank..lol anywh0 i like to here your opion on the matter. Is my tank overstocked or unstcoked. if over stock which should i move to a 55, if understock what colorful cichlid would you recommand! i look forward to what you pros have to say.

oh forgot to include a 2in mystery snail in the same tank.. lol

ITS NOT OVERSTOCKED AT ALL. I fyou want another cichlid I'd go for a firemouth they're a beginner cichlid but I love mine and hes 5 years old now and has shared a tank with a 12 inch dilver arowana

It's not overstocked in my opinion. Some people have a very purist approach to stocking levels. Personally I would never attack these people for their view of fishkeeping, they are in way right and if you follow their advice you can't go wrong. However, my opinion is that overstocking is relative to the particular fish in stock, the level of experience and information of the keeper, and the amount of maintenance work done.

If the fish are healthy, thriving, eating regularly, growing normally, and are not subjected to harmful aggression by tankmates it is acceptable and enjoyable in my opinion to maintain a heavily stocked tank.

The only issue I see is your common pleco, who will grow very large. Since he's already pooping a lot, you definitely want to closely monitor parameters and move him to a larger volume when nitrates get too high to deal with through normal water changes. Also, I siphon out the poo (about 5 or 10 gallons' worth of water) mid-week just to keep the tank looking clean and help keep nitrates down. This could be a good thing to do.

yea i didnt realize how big they can get untill after i got him. i do water 50% water change once a week , but i always watching my tank water and the parameter are always good when i do the water change.
