I know alot of people feel differently on how many fish to put in a tank.
I am on the fence. Sometimes i like just a few fish in a tank and sometimes i like a lot of activity.
For example, my 125 started off with just a mating pair of slavinis, and i loved it, but i had some large fish in a 55, and the salvinis tollerated nothing, so i switched. Now the 125 has an a 10" and 9" oscar, 8" managuense, and 2 loisellis (4" & 5") a 4" EBJD and a normal JD (5") and out this week a 6" FH.
I am close with the owner from my LFS so i like to grow out some fish, and trade them in for fish credit later on.
The large oscar and managuence are really the only 2 permanent ocupants. Small oscar is out this month, as is the FH and the regular JD is in until my fathers tank is ready. I feel that the filtration and staying on top of maintenance is key. There really isn't a ton of aggresion either. And i have a lot of rock/wood decor.
I have 2 AC 500's and an XP3. I do 1-2 water changes/ gravel vac a week. The fish seem real happy and everyone has their own home.
And i do alot of reasearch on each fish before i purchase it. I know its capabilities and size potential.
When a fish isnt working out, its back to the LFS.
I know some people feel a 125 is only big enough for 1 oscar.
So how do you feel about stocking?

Sounds too me like you are doing ok. If this were a permanent situation I would feel differently but since you are getting rid of some as they grow out I don't see any problem. keep up the water changes though.

generally 20 give or take.
When they get a little high, i take the entire tank apart and clean like crazy. Then i am fine for about a month

Thats how i feel about stocking too. If agression is not so prominent, and nitrate is under control then there isn't really much of a problem.

However...

I like fish to have a territory of their own and that means less stocking and some decoration. Also a a bcakup, if a canister or pump should break, in a less stocked tank there is more time te react and rectify adverse changes.
