I just got my 90 gal fish tank started and have a few fish but not sure if I can add anymore. Tank has 2 filters - XP3 and Aquaclear 110 (I think) hang on filter. Two 20" pieces of driftwood and 7 various live plants. I might also add in a rock cave. I currently have the following, which are all 1-2"

1 GT (not real GT but what is commonly sold as one)
2 Firemouths
1 Con

All these fish will stay in the 90 gal, no immediate plans to updgrade. I have considered adding in one Jewel cichlid (not sure how that will work out) or another cichld. Other planned tankmates are 6 giant danios and 6 clown loaches (I know they will eventually outgrow the tank, at which time I upgrade or provide them a better home).

With all the being said is adding another cichlid too much? And if I can add another one what would you recommend?

Thanks

I dont think you're overstocked w/ what you currently have. If you're gonna get another cichlid, I'd go w/ a Jack Dempsey as their not too agressive. And I have the exact same fish in my 210 (with several others); GT, JD, Con, and 2x FM's!!

I like your current stock list. It sounds perfect for the life of those fish.

yeah your current list is good for life leaving the CLs off course

Wouldn't an Oscar be a little messy with everything else in my tank? I don't want to get any more filters?

I think CL's would be good for at least a few years - I remember reading they grow slowly.

I don't like the idea of overstocking - would rather provide my fish with plenty of room to swim and enjoy themselves.

yeah the CL's grow ridiculously slow so i dont see them being an issue for several years...

Yes, O's are very, very messy. I would avoid an O in a 90g with tankmates.

No more cichlids. A few CL's or other dithers might work, or maybe a bichir perhaps?

Thought about a bichir but I have only seen one around here and it was $60. Plus I don't have anything cover the back part of my tank, I'm afraid it might jump out.

BTW what does everyone use to cover the gap from the lights do the back of the tank? Do I need to cover it or is it ok leaving that exposed?
