I kno air pumps add oxygen but do airstones help add air to water.Im thinking about adding a couple air stones if they do.

Air pumps and stones do not actually add oxygen to the water. They help to circulate the water so that more comes in contact with the surface (air / water interface). The more the water is circulated by the surface, the more gas exchange can occur.
This can be accomplished by the use of a HOB filter, powerhead, cannister with spraybar etc. with similar effects.

Exactly. Surface agitation is what's most important here. Unless I was using an Undergravel Filter w/airstones, I havn't used an air pump since I started the hobby with fancy goldfish. ;)

If you are going to blow air in the tank, attach it to a small sponge filter. It accomplishes the surface agitation, plus adds an additional bio-filter to the tank. Personally, I have airstones and sponge filters in all my tanks. I like the bubbles. :)
