I was wondering if they would be compatable. The aro is getting close to 14 inches and has a pretty bad temper. I know p afer is pretty aggressive but my aro killed my rck of same size 4 months ago. I also know that p afer grows quite slow, so the aro will always have length and bulk on the afer. Thoughts?

Usually as they grow larger and get more used to their tank surroundings, then the aggression will start to show. The combination has worked before as a fact, but the tank space was very large with many tank mates.
Which brings into question how big is the tank space/future tank space? Other tank mates?

180 gallons. 1 of every upper jaw bichir besides retropinnis and mokelembembe, leopard ctenopoma, and kingsley ctenopoma. Cant say id ever upgrade past a 265 (7x2x2.5) or 300 deep dimension tank (6x3x2). It wouldnt bother me to get a brown african knife, but i had 2 afer before i traded them in and I loved the way they moved compared to any other knifefish.

I wouldn't be too concerned for right now, as most P. afer are sold at around 5-6" and the tank size is pretty good. However as time goes on you will want to keep an eye on the aggression - I would expect him to go after the Bichir, but maybe the Ctenopoma. I've seen all of the species listed work together before - but there is always the risk of course. All depends on the personality of your P. afer - the African Browns are obviously going to be less of a concern over the P. afer, but that's all up to you. The two species would definitely not work out together though.
