p afers compatiblity

just re arranged my tank an outted a few osccars was wondering if a black ghost knife an a p afers "stary night" knife can live together. Tank is a 125g with a 2 birchirs an 2 datnoids plus the afers.

I have a big P Afer in my 300 right now and i think as they get bigger they don't like tank mates.. Mine was cool with other fish until a month or so ago, now he's shredded half my fish fins, taken out 2 Silver dollars and one jurupari.. And he runs the tank for sure.. He keeps all my Geo's and my 10" NTT Dat in a corner of my tank..
I have to say this is the coolest knife i've ever owned, but almost positive he needs a tank to himself..

He will be fine at a small size but as the other poster said they get very aggressive as they grow.

And he's more likely to beef with another knife fish than other types of fish. And will probably outgrow your 125 by himself.

cheers guys planning on gettin a big tank in a couple of months time growing out a RTC so looks like he will go in there, have not seen any aggression yet will keep a look out though. He really is an awsome fish.

You will almost definitely have problems keeping the RTC and knife together. Knife fish are shaped like popsicles, from an RTC's perspective.

Personally i wouldn't keep him with an RTC.. They're known for taking down tankmates even at small sizes.. Not sure how big your knife and RTC are though.. Plus that 125 will end up being a home to just that knife as it grows..

Looks like will keep an eye on the knife don't want him becoming a Popsicle haha cheers though guys.

hbluehunters Knife outgrew my 125... and my silver dollars now have all their fins back... ;-)

These fish can and will reach 20+ inches given the room to grow. I have a stunted P Afer (only 14" but *thick*)in a 90 with a single 12" oscar- these 2 act like an old married couple- the Oscar charges and the P Afer will turn and nip at the oscars only eye...they've also gone mouth to mouth once or twice. This knife isn't scared of NOTHING and will absolutely kill tankmates...
