I was wondering if anyone know if P.bass's color changes over time.
I have one that is a few years old -- about 14" and has gotten darker.
He lost alot of the bright green. He's been eating mostly dry foods and
ocassional prawns. Could this be it or maybe its a "stable" thing like
what some Dats have . :)

Good question...check your temp and parameters. Have you added any new tankmates to make him change his behavior/mood?

The color change happened over a long period of time, not overnite.
I just one day looked at him and then check out the photo gallery here
and saw a difference in the brightness of color. Funny thing is my tiger
oscar has a nice bright red pattern and they both have the same diet ....

Temps and paramaters have been consistent too.

The hue on my peacocks change depending on where the are situated in the tank and how the light hits then. They do go from dark brown to bright green depending on where they are.
