I have about a 6 inch orinocensis that seems to "gasp" a lot? He eats great and isn't hanging towards the surface like there is an oxygen deficiency, but he opens his mouth in a gasp like manner like every 20sec I'm not sure that this is normal behavior as this is my 1st p bass. The Oscar that shares the 210 gallon aquarium does not do this except at the front glass when expecting/begging for food.

What is your temp?
DO you have an large pump w/ airstone in the tank?
HOw often do you do water changes and how big?

Water temp stays at 79-82, I test my water every 3 days and and do water changes of 20-40% once or twice per week! The aquarium is 210 gallons and houses a 6 inch tiger Oscar and a 6 in peacock bass. There is no way this tank is over crowded. I also has a 54 gallon sump with a 36" tall trickle tower! My ph stays from 7.0-7.2. Ammonia-0, nitrite-0, nitrate-0
